Conservatory and Window Blinds Safety
When choosing window blinds for your home and conservatory Thomas Sanderson believe it’s vital that you consider the safety credentials of your chosen shading application, particularly if you have young children and pets. Thomas Sanderson ensure that no product will be installed that has loose, unrestrained chains and/or cords without safety devices to manage them.
Make sure all cords and chains are secured and out of reach from small children
Thomas Sanderson offer 2 different styles of safety devices. For loop chain/cord blinds a small transparent retaining clip is secured so that the chain/loop is just taut but free to move and at a height that can only be reached by adults.
For pull cord blinds a simple metal cleat is used to provide a safe means of storage for the cords after the blind has been operated. The cord is simply wrapped around the cleat when the product is not in use.
Consider using cordless blind systems
Each Thomas Sanderson blind system has remote control options for the easiest of operation. Motorised blinds have no loose unrestrained chains and/or cords thus eliminating the risk.
Safety in Use Guidelines
• Make sure all cords and chains are secured and out of the reach from small children
• Do not allow cords or chain to hang free
• Where possible, cords should end and/or be secured at least 1.6m up from the floor
• Never put a cot, bed, high chair or playpen near a window or patio door where a child can reach the blind cords or chain
• Keep sofas, chairs, tables, shelves or book cases away from windows to prevent children climbing up and reaching blind cords/chain
• Consider using cordless blind systems
Installation Policy
In accordance with BS EN13120:2009 cord/chain operated blinds will only be installed with a retention bracket/cleat for the safe storage of the cord/chain to reduce risk of strangulation to children and vulnerable persons.
