Homeowners keen to reduce their property's energy use may find that by using their window blinds the right way, they can go green and lower their power bills.
Writing for Centre Daily Times, Andy Lau noted that many homeowners are missing out on the great benefits that the sun can give. He said on sunny days, many people choose to have their blinds partially or totally closed - but this could be wasting energy and cash.
"Opening those shades on cool, sunny days and closing them at night to hold in the heat, can save the equivalent of £2-£4 in heating costs for every square foot of south-facing windows," he advised.
Eco Institution recently highlighted the wide ranging benefits of going green, from lower energy bills to reduced carbon footprints and a comfortable home.
The source also noted that proper use of blinds can be one way in which to conserve heat.
