Patio Awnings - The Hardware

Aside from the fabrics, the materials and technology used to craft your awning are manufactured to the highest standards. Depending on the model you choose, we either use heavy-duty stainless steel or ultra-light aluminium casings in our awnings. All painting is powder-coated to help resist cracking, chipping and peeling.

Folding arm awnings

This style of awning arm uses an elbow joint for smooth operation. It extends and retracts into itself to ensure the entire arm is hidden inside or underneath the awning, leaving the external view of your awning looking neat.

Drop arm awnings

Our range of drop arm awnings hinge either side of the window, allowing you to adjust your shading needs accordingly.

Long arm crossover awnings

Because we know that sometimes there is limited space in a patio or garden area, we are able to supply long arm crossover awnings which have a greater projection than width. This allows maximum shade over some of the more compact outdoor living spaces.

Bionic tendon arms

Using the latest manufacturing and material technology, the bionic tendon arm gives increased strength to our Ultima range of awnings. The tendon consists of two independent webbed elements, one being eight times stronger than steel and the other fifteen times stronger. Encased in a poly nylon sleeve, the tendon provides the patio awning with friction free, silent operation plus optimum strength. And because the arm has been lifecycle tested to 50,000 operations, we can safely say that it will last for years to come.

Light and wind sensor controls as standard

All Thomas Sanderson awnings are fitted with light and wind sensors as a standard component to ensure full protection against the elements. When active, the light sensor automatically extends the awning after the pre-set light level is exceeded. Subsequently as this light level drops below the set threshold, or the wind speed exceeds a preset level, the awning automatically retracts. For safety reasons, only the light sensor can be de-activated, whilst the wind sensor can never be overridden and remains constant.

Self cleaning awning models

Similar to the fabrics, on selected models and colours, we apply a nano coating to the awning frames. This ultra advanced treatment is a ‘self-cleaning’ process, minimising the chances of any dirt adhering to the surface, and is washed away with the rain.
